Into the Pixel: An Exhibition of the Art of the Video Game

by Erica Brandon, April 25, 2013

Every year, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences support a breathtaking art exhibit called "Into the Pixel: An Exhibition of the Art of the Video Game."  The winners are announced at the E3 Gaming Expo each June, and the exhibition continues to tour worldwide in the following months.

"Flemeth"
Dragon Age 2 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360
Artist: Matt Rhodes using Photoshop

Those of us who play video games, and certainly those who design and develop them, know that it is an artist process in almost every aspect.  It's wonderful to see these high caliber works of art on display and getting the recognition and exposure of which they are worthy.

"Wasteland"
From Disney Epic Mickey on Nintendo Wii
Artists: AJ Trahan, Jordan Lamarre,
Matt Hall, and Donny Hamilton using Photoshop

Submissions for the 2013 Into the Pixel exhibition are now closed.  Keep up to date on their website to see this year's winners, and to browse the amazing winners from the past decade.
